The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The confirmation came barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu forwarded their names to the Senate for screening and approval.
The request was contained in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The two nominees appeared before lawmakers for screening in line with constitutional requirements guiding ministerial appointments in Nigeria.
Following the screening exercise, the Senate approved their appointments after deliberations during plenary.
The confirmation officially clears both men to assume their new responsibilities in the Federal Executive Council.
Tegbe Replaces Former Power Minister
Joseph Tegbe’s nomination followed the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu reportedly stepped down from office to pursue elective political office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tegbe is expected to take over the country’s power sector at a time Nigerians continue to raise concerns over electricity generation, transmission, and distribution challenges.
His appointment is seen as part of efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen leadership in the energy sector and improve power supply across the country.
Sola Enikanolaiye was confirmed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs following changes within the foreign affairs ministry.
His nomination came after Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, was elevated to the position of substantive Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
The diplomat, who hails from Kogi State, is expected to support Nigeria’s foreign policy engagements and international relations efforts under the current administration.
