  • NYSC member Segun Ajibare was reportedly detained in Ilorin after publishing podcasts questioning Moro Bridge rehabilitation in Kwara State.
  • Sources said DSS and NSCDC operatives arrested him in Osun State and transferred him to prison custody.
  • The detention was allegedly linked to complaints filed by former Kwara commissioner Abdulquawiy Olododo.

A member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Segun Ajibare, has reportedly been detained at the Oke-Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, over podcasts and commentaries he published concerning the collapse of Moro Bridge in the state.

According to sources familiar with the development, Ajibare was arrested in Osogbo, Osun State, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) before being moved to Ilorin.

The sources alleged that the corps member was transferred directly to prison custody without first being arraigned in open court.

The arrest was reportedly linked to complaints filed by Abdulquawiy Olododo, a former Kwara State Commissioner for Works and an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the House of Representatives.

Ajibare had reportedly used his podcasts and online commentaries to question the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the Moro Bridge despite claims that the bridge underwent rehabilitation in 2024.

He alleged discrepancies in the cost and transparency of the bridge rehabilitation project

One of his podcasts, published on May 4, 2026, reportedly focused on alleged discrepancies in the cost and transparency of the bridge rehabilitation project. The commentary questioned the spending figures associated with the project and called for accountability from government officials.

Shortly before his phone was allegedly seized, Ajibare reportedly sent an emergency message to some associates explaining that security operatives informed him of an order directing his detention.

“It is an order to remand me in jail. They showed me and NYSC court order,” he reportedly wrote.

He further stated that the officers handling the matter preferred a peaceful resolution but had instructions to move him directly to prison custody.

Sources close to the matter said Ajibare was later transferred to the Oke-Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin after being transported from Osun State.

One associate described Ajibare as an activist known for commenting on governance, politics, and public accountability issues.

The source added that the corps member managed to communicate briefly before losing access to his phone during the journey to Ilorin.
