KEY POINTS

  • Mudashiru Obasa secured the APC House of Representatives ticket for Agege federal constituency unopposed.
  • Delegates across 13 wards unanimously endorsed him during the party primaries held in Lagos State.
  • The long-serving Lagos Assembly Speaker pledged improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, and stronger federal representation for Agege.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Agege federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives after securing an unopposed victory in the party’s primary election.

The primary exercise, conducted across 13 political wards in Agege constituency on Saturday, saw delegates and party members unanimously endorsing the long-serving Lagos lawmaker.

The development officially clears the path for Obasa to contest for a seat in the National Assembly under the ruling party’s platform.

Mudashiru Obasa had earlier declared his intention to run for the House of Representatives seat during a stakeholder meeting in Agege on May 13.

His emergence without opposition at the primaries was widely interpreted as a sign of strong internal party backing and grassroots influence within the constituency.

Following his victory, Obasa expressed gratitude to party members and constituents for their overwhelming support.

“Your massive support and the outcome of the primary are clear demonstrations of your belief in our shared vision for better representation,” he said.

He described the mandate as a responsibility he intends to discharge with humility and commitment to the people of Agege.

Promises of Development and Constituency Representation

In his post-primary remarks, the Lagos Assembly Speaker pledged to prioritise development-focused representation if elected to the National Assembly.

He said his legislative agenda would focus on increasing federal presence in Agege, improving infrastructure, expanding youth empowerment opportunities, and strengthening education and healthcare services.

“I will continue to champion the interests of Agege by pushing for more federal presence, youth empowerment opportunities, improved infrastructure, quality education, better healthcare delivery and economic initiatives,” he stated.

He also promised to maintain close contact with constituents and ensure their voices are represented at the national level.

Mudashiru Obasa has served as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly for nearly a decade, making him one of the most influential political figures in the state.

His transition from state legislature leadership to the House of Representatives marks a significant shift in his political trajectory, positioning him for a broader role at the federal level.

Political observers note that his unopposed emergence reflects his strong influence within the Lagos APC structure, particularly in Agege and surrounding constituencies.

The unopposed primary outcome suggests a consolidation of support within the APC structure in Agege, where party stakeholders reportedly aligned behind Obasa’s candidacy.

Party members described the exercise as peaceful and unanimously supportive, with no recorded opposition during the voting process.

The result now positions him as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the general elections, where he is expected to leverage his legislative experience and political network.
