  • EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede ordered operatives to apologise to a UUTH surgeon and the NMA over a hospital incident.
  • The commission expressed regret and launched a full investigation into the matter.
  • Officers found culpable may face disciplinary action, while the EFCC pledged to prevent future occurrences.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has directed operatives of the anti-graft agency to apologise to Professor Eyo Ekpe and members of the Nigerian Medical Association following a controversial incident at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

The directive came after the commission reviewed a preliminary report on the May 12, 2026 encounter involving EFCC personnel and medical staff at the hospital.

In a statement released on Monday, the EFCC said Olukoyede regretted the discomfort and public concern caused by the incident.

He ordered that a formal apology be extended to Professor Eyo Ekpe, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the teaching hospital, as well as to members of the medical association.

Full Investigation Ordered

The EFCC chairman stated that the commission would conduct a full investigation into the matter and promised disciplinary action against any officer found guilty of misconduct.

Olukoyede stressed that the welfare of Nigerians remains central to the commission’s responsibilities and assured stakeholders that measures would be put in place to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

Despite the controversy, the EFCC boss said the incident would not stop the agency from carrying out its anti-corruption operations across the country.

He also appealed to the Nigerian Medical Association and other professional bodies to continue supporting the commission’s fight against corruption.
