Family members, colleagues, friends, and sympathizers gathered in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Friday to bid farewell to Joel Adesiyan, the teacher who was killed during the recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The late Adesiyan, who served as an assistant headmaster at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, was buried following a solemn funeral service held at Ayegun Baptist Church.

The atmosphere at the church was filled with grief as mourners consoled members of his family and paid their final respects.

Photographs from the burial ceremony showed emotional scenes as Adesiyan’s remains were brought into the church while colleagues and community members reflected on his dedication to education and service.

How the Deadly School Attack Happened

The tragic incident occurred on April 15 when armed men riding motorcycles invaded communities along the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota axis in Oriire Local Government Area.

During the attack, the gunmen stormed several schools, including Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School. The attackers abducted dozens of students and seven teachers, throwing the affected communities into panic and fear.

Adesiyan was reportedly shot dead during the assault alongside a commercial motorcyclist who was caught in the violence.

The attack sparked outrage across Oyo State and renewed concerns over the growing insecurity affecting schools and rural communities.

Following the attack, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven teachers had been abducted by the gunmen.

Days later, tragedy struck again after reports emerged that another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who was among those kidnapped, had been killed while in captivity.

Public anger intensified after a disturbing video allegedly showing Oyedokun’s killing surfaced online earlier this week, further heightening fears over the safety of the remaining abductees.
