Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has revealed plans to establish a new security outfit named “Iru Ekun Security Network” to help tackle insecurity across the South-West region.
Speaking in a statement issued on Monday, Igboho said all necessary documents for the registration of the security organisation had already been submitted to the Federal Government and that he was awaiting approval for operations to begin.
“Iru Ekun,” a Yoruba phrase meaning “the tail of a leopard,” is expected to focus on combating criminal activities, especially in forest areas where kidnappers, bandits, and other armed groups are believed to operate.
Security Outfit to Work With Existing Agencies
Igboho explained that the proposed security network would collaborate with major security agencies including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to him, the aim is to strengthen efforts already being made to restore peace and security in rural communities across Yorubaland.
He also praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a strong commitment to addressing insecurity across the country.
Igboho further stated that his organisation is ready to comply with the recent executive order signed by Seyi Makinde regulating private security groups and associations in Oyo State.
Makinde had introduced the order to ensure better coordination and legal oversight of security-related activities as insecurity becomes increasingly complex.
The Oyo governor said the regulation would ensure that all security groups operate within a clear legal framework that supports peace, public order, and the rule of law.
