  • Seyi Makinde openly endorsed Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor for the 2027 Oyo governorship election.
  • The endorsement was reinforced at a joint PDP–APM rally in Ibadan, signaling a growing political alliance.
  • Makinde described Adekanmbi’s candidacy as a continuation of his “Omituntun 3.0” agenda but urged him to build an independent leadership style.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has publicly endorsed Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor in the 2027 governorship election, marking a major development in the state’s political landscape.

Adekanmbi, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has recently gained increased political visibility amid growing speculation about Makinde’s succession plans.

The endorsement follows weeks of political discussions intensified by Makinde’s earlier declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential race, which fueled debates about leadership transition in Oyo State.

The governor’s support became more evident during a joint mega rally in Ibadan involving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and APM.

At the event, Makinde and Adekanmbi appeared side-by-side alongside key party stakeholders, signaling a growing political alignment between both platforms in the state.

During the official unveiling of Adekanmbi as APM’s consensus governorship candidate, Makinde praised the evolving partnership and suggested it could extend beyond state politics.

Makinde Frames Succession as Continuation of His Agenda

Addressing supporters, Makinde described Adekanmbi’s candidacy as a continuation of his administration’s developmental agenda, referring to it as “Omituntun 3.0.”

However, he advised Adekanmbi to chart an independent political path, cautioning him against inheriting personal political conflicts while focusing on governance.

He also admitted to imperfections in his administration and urged the next leadership to improve existing policies for the benefit of Oyo State residents.
