Senator Kabiru Marafa has been selected as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the forthcoming election in Zamfara State.
Marafa emerged as the party’s flagbearer through a consensus arrangement after being the sole aspirant for the ticket. The decision was reached during a party gathering held in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, on Friday.
The outcome was officially announced by the chairman of the party’s election committee, Aminu Jelani, who confirmed that Marafa had secured the nomination unopposed.
Marafa Promises Anti-Corruption Drive
Speaking after his emergence, Marafa identified corruption as a major factor behind the numerous challenges facing Zamfara State.
He pledged to run an administration anchored on transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public resources if elected governor.
The former Zamfara coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign during the 2023 general elections also promised to introduce policies aimed at improving governance and restoring public confidence in government institutions.
Marafa further outlined his priorities, which include addressing insecurity, enhancing the welfare of citizens, and ensuring equitable distribution of government resources across all parts of the state.
According to him, strengthening security and promoting inclusive development will be central to his administration’s agenda if he wins the governorship election.
The NDC announced that it has successfully produced candidates for all 34 elective positions in Zamfara State, signaling the party’s readiness for the upcoming elections.
In a related development, NDC leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, announced the emergence of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party’s governorship candidate for Kano State, while Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was named the candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District.
Kwankwaso stated that the selections followed extensive consultations and were guided by principles of equity, fairness, loyalty, competence, and inclusiveness.
