The Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomoso land, Imam Yunus Olushina Teliat (Ayilara II), has appealed to the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to intensify efforts to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oyo State, while strongly rejecting allegations linking him to terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities.

The Islamic cleric made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday amid growing concerns over the abduction of pupils and teachers from communities in Oyo State.

Imam Teliat described the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in the communities of Ahoro, Esin-Ele, and Yawota as heartbreaking and deeply troubling.

According to him, the plight of the victims and their families has remained a major concern, featuring prominently in his prayers and sermons in recent weeks.

The cleric said he understands the pain and trauma being experienced by the affected families and prayed for the safe and immediate release of those being held captive.

He also expressed sympathy to parents, relatives, and community members affected by the incident, asking God to grant them strength during the difficult period.

Calls for Stronger Rescue Efforts

The Chief Imam urged both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to deploy every available resource toward securing the freedom of the abducted victims.

He stressed that while prayers remain important, concrete actions by security agencies and government authorities are necessary to bring the captives home safely.

According to him, no effort should be spared in the ongoing rescue operations.

He also commended members of the Nigerian security agencies involved in the search efforts, acknowledging the risks they face while operating in difficult environments.

The cleric prayed for their safety and success in securing the release of the victims.

Addressing allegations that have circulated on social media and some online platforms, Imam Teliat firmly denied any association with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, or criminal activities.

He described the claims as malicious, unfounded, and defamatory.

The Islamic leader stated that throughout his years of religious and academic service, he has consistently promoted peace, justice, and respect for human life.

He maintained that he has repeatedly used public sermons, lectures, and religious gatherings to condemn terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry, describing such acts as grave violations of Islamic teachings and crimes against humanity.
