Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has appointed Christian Udechukwu as his Special Adviser on Investments. The appointment returns Udechukwu to the State’s Executive Council for a second time, after he served as Commissioner for Industry and Commerce during Soludo’s first term.

A cabinet reshuffle takes shape

Earlier this year, Soludo dissolved his first-term cabinet ahead of his inauguration for a second term. Subsequently, he reconstituted the team, dropping some members who served in the first term while reappointing a few others. Udechukwu’s return therefore signals continuity in the governor’s economic agenda, even as the wider lineup shifts.

According to the statement, Udechukwu brings a deep record in strategic management, corporate finance and public sector leadership across international development, investment advisory and government policy. As Commissioner for Industry between 2023 and 2026, he spearheaded industrialization reforms and SME development. Moreover, he led the project preparation for the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City Free Trade Zone, a flagship plank of the state’s investment push.

A career spanning policy and finance

Beyond Anambra, Udechukwu has built a broad national and international profile. Notably, he served as a European Diaspora Delegate to the 2014 National Conference, and he previously advised the Central Bank of Nigeria as a strategic consultant. In that role, he facilitated landmark initiatives such as the Financial System Strategy 2020 and the launch of the Africa Finance Corporation.

Furthermore, he held significant roles with the OECD in Paris, UK Trade and Investment’s Office of Fair Trading and Guinness Brewing Worldwide in London, and he formerly served as a director of the UK-based Business Council for Africa. In addition, he represented the Bloomberg Multimedia Group across several African markets, founded Business in Africa Events and established the African Banker Awards under the patronage of the African Development Bank.

He also co-founded Asia-Africa Infrastructure and Industrial Ventures Partners Limited and served as a director of Osike Synergy Nigeria Limited, with interests spanning real estate, hospitality and agriculture. Academically, Udechukwu holds a BA in History and English Language from the University of Nigeria, an MA in Advanced International Studies from the University of Leeds as a Guinness Scholar, an MBA from Middlesex University Business School and a certification in corporate finance from the London Business School. Ultimately, the governor framed the choice as a bid to sharpen Anambra’s drive to attract and retain investment.
