  • Lagos State will temporarily shut Iddo Bridge on June 17 and June 21 to enable the installation of heavy steel beams.
  • Motorists have been directed to use alternative routes through Funsho Williams Avenue, Murtala Muhammed Way and Eko Bridge.
  • The government urged residents and commuters to cooperate with traffic officials as rehabilitation work continues on the bridge.

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge located in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area, as rehabilitation work on the structure progresses.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, explaining that the closure is necessary to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to install heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of the bridge.

According to the government, vehicular movement on the bridge will be suspended during designated periods to guarantee the safety of road users and construction workers during the installation exercise.

Dates and Times of Closure

Authorities announced that the first phase of the closure will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

A second shutdown is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Officials noted that the entire section of Iddo Bridge would remain inaccessible to motorists during these periods to facilitate the safe installation of the steel beams.

To reduce traffic congestion, the state government advised commuters travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain to use Funsho Williams Avenue as an alternative route.

Motorists coming from Marina and heading to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain were directed to descend through the ramp connecting Iddo-Onigbe and Oyingbo before linking up with Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, road users travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina were advised to access Eko Bridge through Apapa Road and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way, linking Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.
