President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has officially sworn in four newly elected senators who emerged victorious in the May 20, 2026 by-elections conducted to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly.

The oath of office and oath of allegiance were administered during plenary by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, marking the formal commencement of the lawmakers’ legislative duties in the 10th Senate.

The newly inaugurated senators are Danladi Envulu-Anza (Nasarawa North), Israel Asogwa (Enugu North), Olaka Nwogu (Rivers South-East), and Dayo Faduyile (Ondo South).

The swearing-in ceremony began with the inauguration of Danladi Envulu-Anza, who will represent Nasarawa North Senatorial District.

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Envulu-Anza won the by-election held to fill the vacancy created by the death of former senator Godiya Akwashiki.

The new senator arrived at the Senate chamber accompanied by several dignitaries from Nasarawa State, including Emmanuel Dandaura, Vice-President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Asogwa Replaces Late Enugu Senator

Next to be sworn in was Israel Asogwa, who will now represent Enugu North Senatorial District.

Also elected on the platform of the APC, Asogwa succeeds Okey Ezea, who died in November 2025 at the age of 62.

His inauguration was witnessed by notable political figures from Enugu State, including former senator Chukwuka Utazi and the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ossai.

The Senate also welcomed Olaka Nwogu, who emerged victorious in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.

Nwogu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), replaces former senator Barinada Mpigi, who died in February 2026 at the age of 64.

Before his election to the Senate, Nwogu represented the Tai/Eleme/Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, giving him prior experience in national lawmaking.
