The Osun State Government has raised the alarm over alleged plans by some political stakeholders to trigger fresh violence at local government council secretariats and motor parks across the state.

The warning was issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who urged political actors, their supporters and residents to avoid actions capable of worsening the state’s post-election tensions.

The government said Osun needed peace, reconciliation and stability following the recent governorship election, warning that any attempt to reignite violence would be resisted.

According to the state government, reports of plans to create fresh crises at local government councils and motor parks were particularly disturbing, especially coming shortly after the election.

The administration urged those allegedly behind the plans to abandon them immediately, stressing that the state could not afford a return to the killings, clashes and political violence witnessed during the pre-election period.

“Osun needs peace for development, not violence in politics,” the government said.

It also expressed condolences to victims of the violence and tensions that preceded the election, calling on residents and political actors to prioritise healing, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

The government urged all stakeholders to embrace what it described as “rule-based interactions” and ensure that political disagreements do not degenerate into violence.

Adeleke Administration Warns Against Relapse

The state government maintained that the election had been concluded and that attention should now shift towards rebuilding trust and maintaining peace.

It appealed to political leaders and their supporters to speak and act responsibly, stressing that Osun should be entering a period of healing and development rather than another cycle of confrontation.

The government also referenced recent discussions between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying both had engaged on what it described as a peaceful way forward after the election.

It warned that any attempt to push the state back into violence would undermine the peace process and constitute an affront to the Presidency and the Nigerian Constitution.
