APC Alleges Deji Adeleke of Contract Racketeering in Osun

KEY POINTS

  • The APC has accused Dr. Deji Adeleke, brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and father of Davido, of contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds.
  • The party claims that Dr. Adeleke operates as the “unofficial Governor-General” of Osun State, while Governor Adeleke is reduced to a titular role, with his sister, Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, handling administrative affairs.
  • The APC has called for an investigation into the alleged corruption, urging anti-corruption agencies to probe the contracts and ensure transparency in governance.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has leveled serious allegations against Dr. Deji Adeleke, the brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke and father of renowned Nigerian musician Davido.

In a statement signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC Director of Media & Information in Osun State, the party accused him of contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds.

The statement, obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, has sparked widespread controversy and calls for an investigation into the alleged misconduct.

How the Adeleke family is accused of undermining Osun State governance

According to the APC, he has been implicated in a series of controversial borehole projects allegedly awarded to him in selected wards across the state.

The party claimed that he secured a borehole project for a staggering sum of N14 million, many of which were never executed.

In contrast, the APC stated that similar borehole projects with full ancillary facilities were constructed for less than N2 million each during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The APC further accused him of operating as the “unofficial Governor-General” of Osun State, wielding significant influence behind the scenes. The party also alleged that Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, the governor’s elder sister, has taken on the role of “Governor-in-Charge of Administration,” while Governor Ademola Adeleke has been reduced to a titular figure, described as the “Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment.”

It is not a gainsaying that Dr. Deji Adeleke has been operating behind the scene as the unofficial Governor-General of the state; Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, the governor’s elder sister, has secured the role of the Governor-in-Charge of Administration for herself while the Governor who was elected has been titular and ridiculously playing the role of a Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment to the consternation of the right-thinking members of the society. The situation is that bad in our state,” the statement added.

The APC called for an immediate investigation into the alleged contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds, urging relevant anti-corruption agencies to probe the borehole projects and other contracts awarded under the current administration.

The party also highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in governance, emphasizing that the alleged actions of the family undermine the democratic principles enshrined in the constitution.
