  • APC demands Senator Umahi’s clarification on Anambra opposition.
  • The South East APC Forum wants Umahi to strengthen the party.
  • APC remains confident in Anambra’s electoral prospects.

The South East APC Young Progressives Forum has called on Senator Dave Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, to clarify his recent comments regarding the political landscape in Anambra State.

Umahi’s statement, which suggested that there is no opposition in the state, has raised concerns that it could be perceived as an endorsement of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led government ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

Speaking during a press conference on March 26, Comrade Paschal Candle, the National Convener of the Forum, expressed the group’s concern.

He stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been steadily growing in Anambra, with a solid structure in place across the state.

“We have a well-established APC structure in Anambra. We have offices in all 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

Any claim that there is no opposition undermines the tireless efforts of APC members in building the party,” Candle said.

APC forum questions Umahi’s statement on political opposition

The Forum emphasized that Umahi’s words, as a senior member of the APC, carry significant weight. The group expects him to use his position to strengthen the party in the South East.

Moreover, Candle called for clarification, as statements like Umahi’s could confuse APC supporters. This could hinder their efforts leading into the governorship election.

“We want to make sure this misunderstanding doesn’t affect our chances in the election. Our party is fully prepared for the November polls, and we are confident that Anambra residents are looking for an alternative to the current leadership,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the Forum urged APC members in the state to stay focused and not be distracted by political comments. They stressed the importance of party unity and determination.

According to Vanguard, they further called on Umahi to reaffirm his commitment to APC’s electoral success in the region.

Forum reaffirms commitment to APC victory in Anambra election

In concluding the press conference, the Forum reiterated its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

They expressed confidence that the APC’s efforts in Anambra would result in a victory in the upcoming election. This would help strengthen governance in the South East and beyond.
