Key Points

  • Atiku Obi El-Rufai coalition could beat Tinubu in 2027.

  • Public frustration may fuel support for the united opposition.

  • PDP warns against APC’s political patronage tactics.

The People’s Democratic Party has projected that a potential political alliance between Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and other opposition figures could bring a swift end to President Bola Tinubu’s tenure if strategic conditions are met.

According to Hon. Timothy Osadolor, PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, unity and a sincere pursuit of shared goals are essential to securing victory in the 2027 general election.

Speaking to Vanguard in Abuja, he stated that the combined 13 million votes garnered by Atiku and Obi in 2023 far outweighed Tinubu’s 8 million and could translate into a winning majority if egos are set aside.

“This would become Nigerians versus Tinubu and the APC,” Osadolor declared, calling on the political heavyweights to prioritize national interest over personal ambitions.

Rising frustration and hunger may fuel voter backlash

Osadolor argued that worsening economic conditions, including widespread hunger, insecurity, and depression, are pushing citizens toward an alternative political option.

He pointed out that Nigerians previously unseated President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 under similar conditions and could do the same in 2027.

He also dismissed the APC’s recent financial strategies, such as disbursements to state governors, as hollow political patronage that only fuels public resentment.

“The political class is less than 10 percent of our population. The other 90 percent knows this money belongs to them,” he said, describing APC’s tactics as insensitive and corrupt.

Atiku Obi El-Rufai coalition needs youth mobilization to succeed

For the Atiku Obi El-Rufai coalition to stand a real chance, Osadolor emphasized the importance of a robust grassroots campaign, especially targeting young and marginalised voters.

He called on opposition leaders to coordinate a clear and compelling vision for Nigeria.

He warned that without unity and a genuine strategy, the coalition risks repeating past mistakes.

But with focused mobilisation and leadership synergy, Osadolor said, the opposition could retire the APC.

“President Tinubu should begin compiling his life’s work and consider retirement before the ballot box humiliates him,” he said.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, the PDP maintains that the coalition could be the most viable path to real political change in Nigeria.
