KEY POINTS

  • Ribadu claims the Boko Haram insurgency has been reduced by neutralizing more than 13,000 insurgents under Tinubu’s rule.
  • There have been fewer key issues such as banditry, issues of secession and oil sabotage.
  • Since 2023, more than 124,000 insurgents and their relatives have given themselves up.

At the APC National Summit, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu stated that the Tinubu administration took over from the previous administration, dealing with five key security problems, including Boko Haram insurgency, armed banditry, secessionist unrest, Niger Delta militancy and herder-farmer clashes.

He pointed out that the administration was working to restore peace and order with the help of unified security strategies as Ribadu outlines security gains .

Major violent incidents before Tinubu became president

According to Ribadu, earlier incidents included the bombing of the Abuja-Kaduna train, the escape from Kuje Prison and attacks on both military posts and religious sites. Tinubu pointed out that between them, Boko Haram and banditry resulted in the deaths of over 47,000 people and made millions of people homeless before he came into office.

When military operations work together, there are real outcomes

Ribadu pointed out that teams from several security agencies have killed 13,543 Boko Haram fighters and recovered 11,000 illegal arms. Around 124,000 terrorists and their relatives have given themselves up.

He pointed out that because of the new security arrangement, the South-East’s stay-at-home order and sabotage of oil in the Niger Delta have reduced greatly.

Operations to restore security goes on, as Ribadu outlines security gains

Ribadu agreed that there are ongoing military raids in parts of Mali such as the Tumbuktu Triangle and Tumbu islands, since insurgents are still active there. He confirmed that the government remains set on applying military force and improving security for the nation.
