KEY POINTS

  • Oyebanji recalls Olatunbosun as information commissioner.
  • The move follows a major cabinet shake-up.
  • Continuity and stability drive Oyebanji’s governance strategy.

Barely a week after dissolving his cabinet, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reinstated Taiwo Olatunbosun as Commissioner for Information. The decision, confirmed in a recall letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, takes immediate effect.

Olatunbosun, a former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, was one of several commissioners who had stepped down following Oyebanji’s sweeping cabinet dissolution on August 11. His reinstatement was announced in a statement on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode.

Recall of information commissioner takes immediate effect

The recall reflects Oyebanji’s balancing act between refreshing his administration and ensuring continuity.

Six other commissioners — including Finance, Works, and Human Capital Development — were retained during the earlier dissolution to keep critical government operations intact.

The return of Olatunbosun is seen as an effort to stabilize communication functions in government, especially as the administration pushes its “shared prosperity” agenda.

Governor stresses continuity in governance strategy

When Oyebanji dissolved the State Executive Council, he said the decision was aimed at injecting “fresh energy” into governance.

The recall of Olatunbosun suggests that while new leadership will be introduced across several ministries, experience and loyalty remain important to the governor’s long-term strategy.

Political analysts in Ado-Ekiti say the reinstatement highlights Oyebanji’s careful approach to balancing political alliances with governance priorities. It also underscores his recognition that information management remains a key tool in steering public perception of his administration.
