KEY POINTS

  • Specially designed pot with 22,619-litre capacity to be used.
  • About 5,278kg of raw basmati rice needed for the attempt.
  • Cooking will require 1,583kg of tomato paste and other condiments.

Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has unveiled her latest culinary challenge cooking what she hopes will become the world’s biggest pot of jollof rice.

Massive scale

Baci, who shot to global fame in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, disclosed in a video posted on Instagram that the attempt will involve 250 bags of rice.

She explained that the specially designed pot built for the project has a capacity of 22,619 litres, with her goal being to fill it up to at least 75 to 80 per cent.

“My goal is to fill this pot up by at least 75 to 80 per cent. That means I will need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice to achieve the yield,” she said.

Executive decision

According to her calculations, the cooking would typically require 264 bags of rice, but she opted for a slight adjustment.

“I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags,” she noted.

Baci also detailed the condiments required, stressing the enormous amount of tomato base that will go into the meal.

“For one kg of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian jollof, I’m going to use 0.30. That means I will need 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she explained.

She said the tomato base will be distributed across tomato paste, pepper chicken paste, and jollof paste to create what she described as the “most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted.”
