The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned Nigerians against dealing with one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed officer allegedly using the agency’s name to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
In a statement released on Sunday, the DSS said Godwin has been impersonating its officials and engaging in fraudulent activities under the guise of representing the Service.
“The DSS hereby alerts members of the public to the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff,” the agency said. “He is reportedly using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.”
DSS cautions public amid rising impersonation scams
The agency urged Nigerians to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the DSS before making financial or other commitments.
It advised citizens to channel legitimate requests or complaints through its official contacts, telephone number 09088373515 or email dsspr@dss.gov.ng.
The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its operations, warning that anyone caught impersonating its officers would face the full weight of the law.

The security agency noted that the latest alert follows a similar case involving Barry Donald, another dismissed officer accused of defrauding members of the public while posing as a DSS operative.
Finally, it reiterated that the The Department of State Services will continue to expose and prosecute anyone using its name or symbols for criminal activities.
