KEY POINTS

  • Siatech Africa builds Liberia’s first solar-powered city.

  • Olanrewaju Olaniyan leads West Africa’s clean energy push.

  • Project combines renewable power and digital inclusion.

Olanrewaju Olaniyan, a businessman from Nigeria, created Siatech Africa, a company that builds infrastructure.

They developed the first city in Liberia that runs completely on solar power. This is a significant step forward for renewable energy in West Africa.

Developed in partnership with Huawei and Liberian government agencies, the city uses a smart microgrid that allows each neighborhood to generate and manage its own power while staying connected to a central grid.

Automated tools help balance energy supply and demand, cut waste, and ensure steady power across the community.

Olanrewaju Olaniyan on building Africa’s solar-powered cities

For Olanrewaju Olaniyan, the project is about more than energy. It’s about empowerment. “When energy and technology meet, you open the door to learning, better healthcare, and entrepreneurship,” he said.

The solar city powers schools, healthcare centers, and digital hubs—creating access to education and connectivity for thousands. Olaniyan said the collaboration between private innovation and public institutions proves that Africa can develop its own smart, sustainable communities built on local expertise.

Siatech expands its clean energy vision across Africa

According to Billionaires Africa, under Olaniyan’s leadership, Siatech Africa has grown rapidly in infrastructure and telecoms, earning the Best Regional Collaboration Award for West Africa at the 2023 Huawei Partner Awards.

Following the success in Liberia, the company plans to launch solar-powered city projects in Ghana and Sierra Leone, integrating renewable energy and digital infrastructure to build self-sufficient, tech-enabled communities across the continent.
