  • Lagos begins eight-month Lekki–Ajah road rehabilitation.
  • Work will be executed in two major phases.
  • Government urges patience from commuters and residents.

The Lagos State Government will begin road rehabilitation works on the Lekki–Ajah corridor from Saturday, November 15, 2025, through Wednesday July 15, 2026, an eight-month project designed to ease traffic and improve road infrastructure across one of the city’s busiest routes.

Announcing the development on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the project reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and long-term infrastructural renewal.

Two-phase plan for Lekki–Ajah rehabilitation

The rehabilitation, he explained, will be executed in two phases to reduce disruption for commuters and businesses along the corridor. Therefore preliminary works are already underway.

Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate, this stage will cover seven sections of the expressway. During construction, one lane will remain open to traffic while the other undergoes repair.

Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge, this phase will focus on four sections. Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane until the repairs are completed on the other.

Government pledges further traffic management support

Furthermore, Osiyemi noted that traffic officers will be deployed throughout the period to manage diversions and maintain order.

He appealed for public cooperation, stressing that “the temporary inconvenience will yield long-term benefits.”

The commissioner advised motorists to plan their trips ahead, obey traffic personnel, and follow directional signs. The statement also reiterated that the rehabilitation aligns with the state’s wider infrastructure improvement drive, which includes ongoing works along the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway.
