Wike-Backed PDP Bloc Calls Emergency BoT, NEC Meetings

KEY POINTS

  • The Wike-backed PDP faction has summoned emergency BoT and NEC meetings.
  • The move follows sweeping expulsions at the PDP convention.
  • Party leaders face growing tension over internal dissent.

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike has called emergency Board and Executive Committee meetings for November 18.
Both gatherings are scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, marking the bloc’s first coordinated move since the Ibadan convention disrupted party leadership stability.

The notice issued Monday by factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and shared through Lere Olayinka confirmed Wadata Plaza’s NEC Hall as the venue. The BoT session is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the scheduled NEC meeting taking place later at 2:00 p.m.

Wike-backed PDP faction signals reset

The announcement described the meetings as critical and showed the faction preparing to confront issues arising from convention disciplinary actions already implemented.
The PDP expelled several senior figures Saturday in Ibadan, including Wike, Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Ayo Fayose, and Austin Nwachukwu for alleged anti-party activities.

Delegates endorsed the expulsions after former Deputy National Chairman (South) Bode George moved the motion, and Bauchi State PDP Chairman Samaila Buga seconded it.

According to Punch, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, put the decision to a voice vote that drew overwhelming support. The step signalled a firm stance by party leaders who want to draw a line under months of internal conflict and sustained accusations of anti-party conduct within senior ranks.

Tension rises around Wike-backed PDP faction

The faction’s decision to convene the two top organs of the party suggests it is working to reassert its position after the expulsions. It also shows that tensions inside the PDP remain far from settled.

Party insiders view Tuesday’s meetings as a test of strength between established leadership structures and a bloc determined to remain visible despite the disciplinary rulings.
