Motorists Urge Dangote Refinery to Expand Cheap Petrol Outlets

KEY POINTS

  • Dangote petrol affordable outlets remain limited in Abuja
  • MRS stations sell at N739 per litre while competitors charge above N800
  • Motorists urge expansion of partner stations for better fuel access

Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory are calling on Dangote Refinery to increase the number of partner retail outlets to improve access to cheaper petrol.

Since last week, Dangote Refinery designated MRS Oil as its partner retailer to dispense petrol nationwide at N739 per litre. With other stations selling above N800, MRS stations have become the main source of discounted fuel for consumers.

Limited access frustrates Abuja drivers

Checks across Abuja revealed very few MRS stations in operation. At Katampe, along the AYA-Gaduma-Asokoro Road, the local station did not display its pump price, while long queues formed after the price cut. The station also closes sales daily at 7:00 p.m.

Along Nyanya-Karshi Road, three MRS stations operate, but only one dispenses petrol at N739 per litre. The other two continue to sell at N910 per litre, leaving motorists frustrated by limited availability.

George Anosike, a civil servant, said the number of MRS stations is too small to meet demand. “MRS stations are very few in Abuja. If more filling stations sell at this price, more people will enjoy the Dangote bonanza,” he said.

Calls for broader distribution of Dangote petrol

Another motorist, Joachim Jimbiri, stressed that expanding Dangote petrol affordable outlets would make the refinery’s fuel more accessible. “Two months ago, petrol rose to N970 per litre. Nigerians want the refinery to succeed, but we must benefit from cheaper petrol,” he said.

He added that Nigeria’s abundant crude oil and the operational refinery should make petrol even more affordable. “Petrol should not cost more than N500 per litre in this country. The refinery and our crude reserves should ensure cheaper fuel for everyone,” Jimbiri said.

Motorists hope that Dangote Refinery will respond to calls for wider distribution, making N739 per litre petrol more accessible across the FCT and maximizing the benefits of the country’s new refining capacity.
