The Police have invited Pastor Chris Okafor, senior pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, for questioning over allegations of multiple rape and other sexual offences, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

The invitation follows directives from the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who ordered a full investigation into the claims.

Police said the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, the command’s central investigative unit, will handle the inquiry.

In a statement Sunday evening, police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said authorities served Okafor with an invitation letter through his legal representative and expect him to cooperate as investigators begin their inquiries.

Lagos rape allegations trigger formal police probe

Adebisi said the commissioner instructed the deputy commissioner in charge of the SCID to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into what police described as capital offences and other serious crimes. She added that the command has put in place immediate security measures for alleged victims.

Police are urging individuals with complaints linked to the Lagos rape allegations to report directly to the SCID. Authorities also appealed to members of the public who may have relevant information or evidence to assist investigators through official police channels.

According to the statement, the command will ensure that the identities of complainants and witnesses are kept strictly confidential. Police said adequate protection will be provided throughout the investigative process to encourage cooperation and safeguard those involved.

Police outline process on Lagos rape allegations

The Lagos State Police Command said it will conduct the investigation professionally, transparently, and impartially, following existing laws and due process. Adebisi emphasized that no one is above the law and that authorities will evaluate all criminal allegations on their own merits.

She added that the leadership remains committed to maintaining peace and managing sensitive situations discreetly. The police haven’t spoken anything about the claims because they want to protect any victims and make sure the investigation is fair.

The leaders further said that more information would be made available as the probe goes on. For now, the police are focusing on obtaining statements, checking over any evidence they can discover, and working out what to do next according to Nigerian law.
