The Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abuja, has dismissed claims of negligence in the death of a young singer, Ifunanya Nwagene, who reportedly died after suffering complications from a snake bite.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the hospital’s management said its medical personnel made extensive efforts to save the patient’s life but were ultimately unsuccessful.

The centre expressed sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, describing her passing as deeply painful and regrettable.

“The loss of a loved one is never easy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” the statement said.

Choir Confirms Death of Promising Vocalist

Nwagene, popularly known as Nanyah, was a soprano with the Amemuso Choir in Abuja. Her death was confirmed earlier on Sunday by the choir in a statement shared on its official Facebook page.

The statement, signed by the choir’s Music Director, Sam Ezugwu, disclosed that Nwagene died on Saturday following complications arising from a snake bite.

The choir described her as a gifted and passionate musician whose potential was beginning to attract wider attention within Abuja’s growing music community.

“A rising star, Ifunanya was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world. Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed,” the statement read.

The choir added that burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.

FMC: ‘All Necessary Medical Steps Were Taken’

While specific clinical details were not disclosed, FMC Abuja insisted that its doctors and nurses acted professionally and in line with established medical procedures.

The hospital maintained that its staff responded promptly and worked tirelessly to stabilise the patient after she was presented for treatment.

“We wish to assure the public that everything medically possible was done in an attempt to save her life,” the management said.

FMC also appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading unverified claims, urging patience and understanding as the family mourns.
