The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the chairmanship election in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.

The declaration of Maikalangu was made around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the INEC Area Office in Karu after final collation of results from across polling units.

Returning officer Andrew Abue confirmed that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid ballots, satisfying all constitutional requirements and polling the highest number of votes to retain his seat.

Breakdown of Party Performances

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, finished second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came third with 3,398 votes.

Other parties recorded significantly lower tallies, including:

  • APGA – 1,111
  • NNPP – 1,694
  • SDP – 2,185
  • Accord – 403
  • YPP – 421
  • ZLP – 189

Several minor parties polled under 200 votes each.

INEC reported that 65,197 votes were cast in total, with 62,861 valid and 2,336 rejected ballots. Accreditation stood at 65,676 voters out of 837,338 registered voters, indicating relatively low turnout compared with the voter register.
