The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to administer the oath of office to Joseph Oyewole as a justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The event will take place at 2:00 pm on Wednesday in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court complex in Abuja.

Before his appointment, Oyewole served as a justice of the Court of Appeal and presided over its Enugu Division. His elevation to the apex court is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary and improve its efficiency in delivering judgments.

NJC recommendation and judicial reforms

The National Judicial Council recommended Oyewole alongside 35 others for different judicial positions during its 110th meeting held on January 13, 2026, under the leadership of the CJN. Officials described his appointment as a strategic move to reinforce the Supreme Court’s capacity and ensure timely and fair rulings.

According to a statement issued by the court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Festus Akande, Oyewole distinguished himself during his service at the appellate court. The judiciary noted that his experience, integrity, and legal expertise would strengthen the apex court and support its commitment to justice, impartiality, and judicial independence.

Guests invited to the ceremony have been instructed to comply strictly with security procedures and court protocols, as authorities aim to ensure a smooth and orderly event.
