Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday officially decorated Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police during a formal ceremony at the State House, Abuja.

Disu’s elevation follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, marking a significant leadership transition in the Nigeria Police Force at a time of heightened national security concerns.

In his remarks after the decoration, Disu pledged to lead the force with compassion, honesty, and integrity. He called on officers to exceed public expectations and demonstrate professionalism in tackling crime and insecurity nationwide.

He stressed that modern policing standards, accountability, and ethical conduct would guide his leadership, noting that public trust remains critical to effective law enforcement.

Focus on Welfare and Professionalism

The acting police chief also vowed to prioritize officers’ welfare, dignity, and working conditions, saying a motivated force is essential to achieving operational success. He urged personnel to uphold discipline and restore confidence in policing institutions.

Disu brings more than three decades of service to the role. Over the years, he has held several strategic positions, including Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as head of the Intelligence Response Team.

Before his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, where he oversaw major criminal investigations.
