The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has strongly dismissed allegations circulating online that he once demanded sexual favours from a woman in exchange for settling a debt, describing the claim as baseless, trivial, and politically motivated.

The accusation surfaced after a businesswoman, Tracyniter Nicholas Ohiri, posted a video on social media alleging that the minister made an inappropriate advance toward her several years ago. The video quickly spread online, triggering public debate and reactions across social platforms.

However, legal proceedings soon followed. Ohiri was arraigned before a magistrate court in Abuja over a defamation charge linked to the claims. Court officials have not yet issued a final ruling, and the case is expected to proceed through the judicial process.

Umahi responds during project inspection

Umahi addressed the controversy while speaking to journalists after inspecting federal government road projects in Enugu State and Anambra State. He said he remains unbothered by online commentary and insisted that the allegations have not shaken his confidence or reputation.

According to him, his long political career speaks for itself. He pointed out that he has previously served as a party chairman, deputy governor, and governor for eight years without facing any accusations of misconduct.

He stated that public attacks and criticisms only strengthen his resolve and do not distract him from his responsibilities as minister.

The minister argued that the allegations were orchestrated by political opponents attempting to generate attention and stir controversy ahead of future political activities. He suggested that such tactics are common in the political arena and said he is confident he will ultimately be vindicated.

Referring to Nigeria’s electoral cycle, Umahi hinted that political tensions often intensify before major contests overseen by Independent National Electoral Commission, implying that the timing of the accusation was not coincidental.
