KEY POINTS

  • Cornelius Ojelabi has been re-elected as Lagos APC chairman during the party’s state congress in Onikan.

  • Party leaders, including Governor Sanwo-Olu and former governor Ambode, backed his return by consensus.

  • His second term is seen as a move to maintain stability and unity within the Lagos APC.

Cornelius Ojelabi has been re-elected as chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, securing a second term at the helm of the party in the state.

The decision was reached during the party’s state congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, where party faithful and leaders gathered to reaffirm their leadership structure.

Sources within the party said top stakeholders agreed by consensus that Ojelabi should continue in office, a move seen as a signal of stability within the Lagos APC.

The congress drew prominent figures from across the party’s ranks. Among those present were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as well as former governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Members of the Governance Advisory Council and other influential party stalwarts also attended, underscoring the importance of the event in shaping the party’s direction ahead of future political contests.

Confirmation from the Governor’s aide

The re-election was later confirmed by Wale Ajetunmobi, special assistant on media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a post on his X page.

“Lagos APC returns Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi as chairman for another term during the state party congress held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, today,” he wrote.

Ojelabi, a pastor and former Lagos State commissioner for rural development, first assumed office as state chairman amid efforts to consolidate party structures at the grassroots level.

His return is widely interpreted within party circles as a vote of confidence in his leadership style and an attempt to maintain cohesion within the Lagos APC.

With major elections on the horizon and shifting political alliances across the country, party leaders appear keen on projecting unity and continuity in one of the APC’s most strategic strongholds.
