The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Karamo Yesiro, the party’s newly elected assistant publicity secretary.

Yesiro died less than 48 hours after emerging as one of the new executive members of the party during the APC state congress held on Tuesday. He was expected to be inaugurated alongside other members of the state executive council on Thursday.

His election at the congress, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, had been greeted with applause from party members who welcomed the new leadership team.

However, the celebration quickly turned into grief after news emerged that he had died shortly before the scheduled swearing-in ceremony.

According to sources within the party, Yesiro was said to have died in his sleep. As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding his death had not been made public.

Party expresses shock

The Lagos chapter of the APC expressed shock and deep sorrow over the development, describing the loss as tragic and painful for the party.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, the Lagos APC publicity secretary, Oluseye Oladejo, said the party was devastated by the sudden passing of the newly elected official.

Oladejo said Yesiro’s death came at a time when his passion and dedication to the party were most needed.

“It is a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment and passion for progressive politics were most needed,” the statement said.

Oladejo noted that although Yesiro’s time in office was cut short before it even began, he had already demonstrated strong dedication to the party and its ideals.

“Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party,” he said.

He added that the late party member had already left a strong impression on colleagues and supporters through his enthusiasm and readiness to serve.

“Though his tenure was tragically cut short, his enthusiasm, humility and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and members alike. He was a vibrant party man whose contributions to the growth and stability of the APC in Lagos State will not be forgotten,” Oladejo said.
