Kano Governor Yusuf Removes Head of Service Abdullahi Musa

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has relieved the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his duties with immediate effect as part of ongoing efforts to restructure the state’s civil service.

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday evening.

According to the statement, Musa was instructed to vacate the office before the close of work that same day.

The move comes amid indications of an impending cabinet reshuffle within the state government as the administration seeks to strengthen its governance structure.

Government says change aims to improve efficiency in civil service

The state government explained that Musa’s removal forms part of broader administrative reforms aimed at repositioning the Kano State civil service for better performance.

According to the statement, the decision is intended to enhance efficiency, strengthen discipline and improve service delivery across government institutions.

The government noted that the restructuring is part of the current administration’s strategy to ensure that public institutions operate more effectively and respond better to the needs of citizens.

Following Musa’s removal, the governor directed the Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, to take over the role in an acting capacity.

Maimota will oversee the office of the Head of Service until a substantive appointment is made.

The statement added that the outgoing Head of Service had been instructed to formally hand over the responsibilities of the office to Maimota no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to Musa for his contributions to the development of the state’s civil service during his tenure.

The administration acknowledged his dedication and service to the state, while wishing him success in his future endeavours.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the civil service system as part of efforts to ensure effective governance and improved public service delivery across Kano State.
