  • Other traditional processions suspended or modified to ensure public safety.

  • Residents urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid circulating unverified reports.

The Kano State Government has confirmed that Muhammadu Sanusi II will lead the Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar this year, maintaining the state’s rich cultural heritage while ensuring public safety.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other key stakeholders. Emir Sanusi will preside over the traditional Hawan Idi durbar, starting from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground, passing through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and concluding at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

Heightened security has been introduced after intelligence reports indicated possible attempts to disrupt the Sallah celebrations. In response, the state has imposed precautionary measures designed to protect lives and property.

Security agencies have been placed on high alert, with instructions to intensify surveillance before, during, and after the festivities.

Commissioner Waiya emphasized that public safety remains a top priority and that all activities will proceed under close monitoring to ensure law and order are maintained.

Modified procession plans

While the Emir will lead the Hawan Idi durbar, other processions will be modified for safety reasons. The Hawan Nasarawa will take place without horseback displays, and traditional events such as Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended.

These adjustments aim to minimize risks to participants and spectators while preserving essential cultural elements of the celebrations. The government has assured residents that these measures are temporary and necessary to safeguard the community.

The Commissioner for Information urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information about the festivities. He reinforced the state government’s commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration, extending warm wishes to Muslims across Kano State for a joyous Eid.

The measures also reflect a balance between preserving Kano’s rich traditions and addressing modern security challenges that could potentially affect large public gatherings.
