A security organisation, Kwara South Joint Security Watch, has raised concerns over an alleged plan by suspected terrorists to carry out coordinated attacks in three local government areas of Kwara State. The group said intelligence reports suggested that Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin Local Government Areas in the Kwara South Senatorial District were being targeted.

According to the group, the suspected attackers are believed to be planning simultaneous strikes on March 23 and March 28, 2026. The development has triggered heightened alert across the affected communities, with security agencies said to have intensified monitoring and preparedness measures.

The Coordinator of the group, Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, confirmed the development during a telephone interview, stating that the intelligence gathered was being treated with urgency. He explained that the group did not want to take the information lightly, adding that security agencies had already begun proactive steps to prevent any attack.

He noted that heavy deployment of military and paramilitary personnel was carried out around 6pm in the affected areas. The deployment reportedly included air surveillance operations aimed at monitoring movements and strengthening security presence in vulnerable locations.

In an earlier statement, Oyin-Zubair urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements. He disclosed that authorities, including the Kwara State Police Command, chairmen of the three affected local government areas and other security outfits, had been formally notified of the alleged threat.

Precautionary measures are being implemented

The group said precautionary measures were already being implemented to safeguard residents, while appealing to communities to support security efforts. It stressed that public vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities would help security agencies respond quickly to any emerging threat.

Community leaders and local security networks were also said to be collaborating with law enforcement agencies to enhance early detection of unusual movements linked to the alleged plot. Residents in the affected areas were advised not to panic but to stay alert as surveillance operations intensified across the region.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over the spread of armed groups and banditry across parts of North Central Nigeria. Several states in the region have recently strengthened local security structures in response to emerging threats.

As of the time of filing the report, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the intelligence report. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she was not aware of the development but promised to get back with further clarification. However, no update had been provided at the time the report was filed.

Sources also indicated that internal security operations had already been activated across the affected local government areas as authorities move to forestall any possible attack.
