Two Nigerians have been confirmed dead in South Africa amid a surge in xenophobic violence targeting African migrants. The Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg revealed that attacks on foreigners have intensified in recent weeks, with disturbing videos of mob violence circulating online.
The victims were identified as Amaramiro Emmanuel and Ekpenyong Andrew. According to the Consul-General, both men died in separate incidents allegedly involving personnel of the South African National Defence Force.
Andrew was reportedly arrested after an altercation with local authorities in Pretoria, and his body was later found in a mortuary days after. Emmanuel, on the other hand, died from injuries sustained during an alleged assault by security operatives.

The Nigerian mission has condemned the killings and called for a thorough and transparent investigation by the South African Police Service and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate. Officials stressed that justice must be served and urged that no individual should take the law into their own hands.
The consulate also advised Nigerians living in South Africa to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant as it continues to monitor the situation.
