  • Boko Haram fighters reportedly beheaded more than seven captives after a failed escape attempt in Borno State.
  • About 416 women and children are still being held in captivity under harsh humanitarian conditions.
  • BOSYA has appealed for urgent intervention to rescue the abducted victims and prevent more deaths.

A faction of Boko Haram identified as Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad, JAS, has reportedly beheaded more than seven captives after they allegedly attempted to escape from a terrorist camp in Borno State.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening inside one of the JAS hideouts where hundreds of abducted civilians, mainly women and children, are being held under harsh conditions.

Sources disclosed that the victims were captured by JAS during an escape attempt before they were executed in front of other abductees. Their bodies were allegedly displayed within the camp as a warning to others against trying to flee.

A disturbing video said to have shown the executions was reportedly obtained by SaharaReporters, although it was not published because of its graphic nature. Witnesses claimed armed fighters suspected to be JAS terrorists, including child combatants, surrounded the victims before carrying out the killings.

Sources also revealed that the same JAS is still holding about 416 women and children captive in the camp. Several children are reportedly battling illness, while some have died due to hunger, poor living conditions, and lack of medical attention.

According to insiders, JAS buried some of the deceased victims within the camp, while the remaining captives continue to endure severe hardship.

The Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA) has since raised concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation, revealing that several efforts had been made to negotiate the release of at least 50 women and children from the camp.

Video Emerge showing execution of young and elderly people

Speaking on the development, the group said it received a disturbing video on Tuesday evening showing the execution of young and elderly men who reportedly tried to escape captivity.

BOSYA stated that despite ongoing humanitarian interventions and mediation efforts over the past two months, the captives had largely been abandoned to their fate.

The group stressed that the purpose of sharing information about the incident was not to promote violence or terrorism but to draw urgent attention to the suffering of those still in captivity.

It appealed to political leaders, Nigerians across the country, and international organisations to urgently intervene and support efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted victims.

According to BOSYA, several captives are seriously ill, while more deaths could occur if urgent action is not taken.

The group warned that the situation inside the camp remains critical, with many of the abducted civilians feeling abandoned and forgotten.
