Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hamzat secured a landslide victory during the party’s governorship primary election, defeating his only remaining challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, by a wide margin.

The results were announced at the APC collation centre located at the party secretariat in Ikeja by the Returning Officer, retired General Jonathan Temlong.

According to Temlong, Hamzat polled 657,917 votes, while his rival secured just one vote in the exercise.

The returning officer disclosed that a total of 657,974 party members were accredited to participate in the primary election conducted across the state’s 245 wards in the 20 local government areas.

Temlong described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and in line with the party’s guidelines, adding that the process reflected internal democracy within the APC.

He also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for monitoring the election.

According to him, the smooth conduct of the primary demonstrated the unity and organisational strength of the APC in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hamzat Dominates Across Lagos LGAs

A breakdown of the results showed that Hamzat recorded overwhelming support across all local government areas in the state.

He polled 16,257 votes in Agege, 31,079 votes in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, 74,501 votes in Alimosho, 20,818 votes in Amuwo-Odofin, and 5,430 votes in Apapa.

The deputy governor also secured 24,631 votes in Badagry, 37,680 votes in Epe, 28,754 votes in Eti-Osa, 33,861 votes in Ibeju-Lekki, and 38,627 votes in Ifako-Ijaiye.

Further results showed he scored 21,588 votes in Ikeja, 55,148 votes in Ikorodu, 51,600 votes in Kosofe, 27,348 votes in Lagos Island, and 49,079 votes in Lagos Mainland.

Hamzat also polled 38,971 votes in Mushin, 36,372 votes in Ojo, 31,972 votes in Oshodi-Isolo, 16,706 votes in Somolu, and 17,495 votes in Surulere.

Following the announcement, Temlong formally declared Hamzat winner of the APC governorship primary and the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

Earlier, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, praised members of both the national electoral committee and the local organising committee for conducting what he described as a credible exercise.

He also commended party members for their orderly conduct and commitment to democratic principles throughout the primary process.

According to Ojelabi, the successful conduct of the election reflects the unity and political strength of the APC in Lagos State.

He further disclosed that the party’s presidential primary election would also be conducted through direct primaries across the state’s 245 wards.
