Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danladi secured a total of 94,990 votes to defeat other aspirants in the keenly contested primary election held across the state.
His closest rival, Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, who was widely regarded as the preferred aspirant of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, polled 41,700 votes, while Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa garnered 22,118 votes.
The results were officially announced on Friday evening by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who chaired the APC governorship primary election committee in the state.
Danladi Dominates Across Kwara
Danladi, popularly known among supporters as SYD, reportedly enjoyed overwhelming support from party members across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Field reports indicated that party faithful in several areas of Ilorin West and Ilorin East local government areas voted massively in his favour, openly displaying his campaign posters during the exercise.
The Speaker also recorded impressive victories in the five local government areas of Kwara North, where he reportedly secured over 90 per cent of the votes cast.
In Kwara South Senatorial District, local government areas including Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Ekiti, Isin, Oke Ero, and Ifelodun reportedly delivered strong support for Danladi, reinforcing his widespread acceptance within the ruling party.
Before the election, some leading aspirants, including Yahaya Seriki, had publicly shown support for Danladi following endorsements from influential party leaders in the state.
