An Air Peace flight travelling from Lagos to Asaba on Thursday was forced to return to Lagos after poor visibility around the runway at Asaba Airport made it unsafe to continue the journey.
The affected flight, P47860, was scheduled to operate from Lagos to Asaba. According to Air Peace, the decision to divert the aircraft was taken as a precautionary measure to protect passengers and crew.
The airline said the weather-related disruption also affected other flights operating across its network, resulting in delays to scheduled services.
In a statement, Air Peace said the diversion was caused by an unforeseen reduction in visibility around the Asaba airport runway.
The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers, assuring travellers that safety remains its primary consideration in making operational decisions.
Air Peace explained that flight schedules could be affected beyond the particular Lagos-Asaba service because of the disruption to its wider network.
Previous disruption affected Air Peace operations
The latest incident comes about two months after another operational disruption affected Air Peace flights.
On June 29, a power surge caused an IT infrastructure failure that disrupted the airline’s operations and led to delays across several routes.
According to the airline, the power surge affected a critical server responsible for crew scheduling and flight planning, creating difficulties for the smooth coordination of its flight operations.
The airline has therefore experienced disruptions from both technical and weather-related challenges in recent months, although the circumstances surrounding the two incidents were different.
