A two-storey building undergoing manual demolition has partially collapsed in the Aboru area of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, killing one person and trapping two others beneath the rubble.

The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday at No. 42 Governors Road, Aboru, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Emergency responders were alerted through a distress call and quickly mobilised to the scene, where they found several workers trapped under the debris.

LASEMA said its response team rescued two adult males from the collapsed structure.

The victims received first aid at the scene before they were transported to a nearby health facility for further medical treatment.

A third adult male was later recovered from beneath the rubble but was pronounced dead.

Recovery operation continues

As of press time, emergency agencies remained at the site to continue recovery operations and assess the situation.

Personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service were involved in the response.

The incident has renewed concerns over safety procedures during building demolition, particularly where manual methods are used without adequate professional supervision.

LASEMA urged residents, property owners and developers to comply with Lagos State building regulations and ensure that certified professionals are engaged for demolition and construction projects.

The agency stressed that proper safety measures are essential to prevent avoidable deaths and injuries during building works.
