  • Taraba pupils have reportedly studied in a roofless school for over 10 years.
  • The community alleges that government-employed teachers regularly fail to attend classes.
  • Residents want urgent repairs, classroom furniture and regular teaching staff.

Children attending Nomadic Primary School Garin Galadima in Taraba State have reportedly spent more than a decade learning in a dilapidated school building without a roof, desks, chairs or regular attendance by government-employed teachers.

The school is located in Garin Galadima, Wuro Ardo, Baka Karim, in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.

According to an appeal obtained by SaharaReporters on October 14, 2026, pupils continue to receive lessons under extremely difficult conditions, with community members calling on the government and relevant education agencies to intervene urgently.

Photographs reportedly obtained by the publication show pupils sitting on the bare floor inside a classroom without a roof, leaving them exposed to sunshine and rainfall during lessons.

The community said the condition of the school had persisted for more than 10 years, despite the importance of providing children with a safe and suitable environment for learning.

Pupils learn without basic classroom facilities

The appeal, titled “An Appeal for Help: Nomadic Primary School Garin Galadima Is Dying,” describes the difficulties pupils face while trying to obtain an education.

According to the community, the school lacks essential infrastructure, including roofing and classroom furniture. Pupils reportedly have no desks or chairs on which to sit and write during lessons.

The absence of a roof also leaves children vulnerable to changing weather conditions, making it difficult to maintain a suitable learning environment.

The appeal stated that the pupils had continued attending school despite the lack of basic facilities needed for effective teaching and learning.

Community members expressed concern that the prolonged neglect could undermine the children’s educational opportunities and called for immediate steps to rehabilitate the school.

Beyond the deteriorating infrastructure, residents raised concerns about the attendance of government-employed teachers assigned to the school.

The community alleged that these teachers rarely attend classes, leaving the responsibility of educating the children largely to teachers employed and paid by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

According to the appeal, the PTA teachers are funded by the community, despite the financial difficulties faced by local residents.

The situation places an additional burden on families who are already struggling to provide their children with access to education.

The community called for the relevant authorities to ensure that government-employed teachers resume their duties and provide the regular instruction pupils need.

However, the allegations concerning teacher attendance have not been independently verified in the report, and no response from the relevant government authorities was included in the account.

Residents have urged the Taraba State Government and relevant education institutions to address the school’s condition and ensure that pupils have access to a proper learning environment.

The appeal specifically named the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), the Taraba State Ministry of Education and the National Commission for Nomadic Education as institutions that should intervene.

The community identified three immediate priorities: rebuilding or providing a roof for the school, supplying desks and chairs, and ensuring that teachers are available to teach the pupils.

It said these interventions were necessary to improve classroom conditions and give children a better opportunity to learn.

The appeal also called on members of the public to share information and photographs showing the school’s condition to draw the attention of the relevant authorities.

Residents expressed hope that wider public awareness would help bring the situation to the attention of officials capable of providing assistance.

The situation at Nomadic Primary School Garin Galadima raises concerns about access to basic educational facilities for children in rural communities.

A functional school requires more than a building. Pupils also need a safe classroom, suitable furniture and teachers who attend regularly to deliver lessons.

For children learning in a roofless building, exposure to the weather and the lack of desks can make everyday classroom activities difficult.

The community’s appeal highlights the need for intervention that addresses both the school’s physical condition and the provision of teaching staff.

As residents continue to seek assistance, attention is now being drawn to the Taraba State Government and the education agencies named in the appeal to respond to the reported challenges facing the pupils
