The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will undergo repairs for three weeks, starting from Monday, March 4, 2024. The repairs are part of the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the expressway, which is one of the busiest and most important roads in the country.

The Long Bridge, which spans about 1.8 kilometers across the Ogun River, is a vital link between Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria, and other parts of the country. It is also a notorious spot for traffic congestion, accidents, and robberies. The bridge was last repaired in 2016, after it was damaged by fire.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, said that the repairs would involve the replacement of damaged expansion joints, bearings, and asphalt on the bridge. He said that the repairs would be done in phases, with partial closures of the bridge at different times. He appealed to motorists and commuters to exercise patience and cooperate with the traffic management agencies during the period.

He said that the repairs were necessary to ensure the safety and durability of the bridge, and to prevent further deterioration and collapse. He said that the Federal Government was committed to completing the reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is expected to ease traffic flow, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities along the corridor.

He also sa’d that the Federal Government was working on other road projects across the country, such as the Second Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, and the East-West Road. He said that the Federal Government was determined to improve the quality and efficiency of the road network in Nigeria, and to enhance the welfare and well-being of the people.
