Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, a daughter of Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was inaugurated as the Pro Chancellor of Havilla University in Ikom, Cross River State. The ceremony, held over the weekend at the university’s campus, was conducted by the Chancellor and founder of the institution, Hon. Jones Tangban. This landmark occasion also saw the unveiling of an International Centre for Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skill and Research, which has been named in honor of Tinubu-Ojo.

Mujidat Tinubu-Ojo’s appointment as Pro Chancellor marks a significant step in her career and adds to the Tinubu family’s legacy in public service. During her inauguration, she addressed the Governing Council members, outlining her vision for the institution. She committed to advancing quality education in alignment with the “renewed hope agenda” of President Tinubu, emphasizing the administration’s aim to empower young graduates to become self-reliant and break free from the over-dependence on white-collar jobs.

The newly inaugurated Pro Chancellor underscored the vocational center’s role as a beacon of technological advancement and skill development. Tinubu-Ojo explained, “The centre, which will be technologically driven, shall work with local and international organizations to provide first-class training in skills and technical labor to champion the new industrial revolution in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.” This statement reflects a broader vision for the center as a catalyst for economic development and a contributor to Nigeria’s positioning in the global industrial landscape.

Under Tinubu-Ojo’s leadership, the Governing Council is poised to embark on initiatives aimed at attracting capital projects to Havilla University. She expressed a commitment to collaborative efforts and partnerships to construct an ivory tower that can compete on a global scale. This ambitious plan aims to enhance the university’s infrastructure and academic resources, thereby elevating its status as a premier institution for higher learning in Nigeria and beyond.

The inauguration of Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo and the unveiling of the vocational center represent a convergence of educational innovation and governance, highlighting the Tinubu administration’s dedication to education reform and youth empowerment. As Pro Chancellor, Tinubu-Ojo’s leadership is expected to spearhead transformative changes within Havilla University, fostering an environment that nurtures skill development, entrepreneurship, and academic excellence.

This initiative also reflects a broader trend in Nigeria’s educational sector, where vocational and entrepreneurial training is increasingly recognized as critical to addressing the nation’s unemployment challenge and economic development. By focusing on practical skills and innovation, institutions like Havilla University are at the forefront of redefining education to meet the demands of the 21st century.

As the Havilla University community celebrates this new chapter, there is a palpable sense of anticipation for the impact of these initiatives on students and the broader society. The establishment of the International Centre for Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skill and Research, in particular, is poised to become a landmark project that not only honors the legacy of Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo but also embodies the transformative power of education in shaping the future of Nigeria.
