Ebonyi PDP Unfazed by Departures, Emphasizes Rebuilding and Re-strategizing

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, is projecting a message of resilience following recent defections from the party. Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, assures supporters that the party remains strong and is actively rebuilding its ranks.

Defections Seen as Opportunity for Renewal

In his Easter message, Dr. Odii acknowledged the recent wave of defections but downplayed their significance. He argues that these departures present an opportunity for the PDP to reorganize and focus on attracting “genuine, patriotic” members who are committed to the party’s ideals.

“The defections in some cases are a direct aftermath of the contentious 2023 general elections which shook Nigeria to its core through the various loopholes and manipulations caused by combined forces of anti-democratic elements and power mongers who tried to usurp the power of the people; in some others it is strictly driven by personal survival needs.

“In Ebonyi, a state where our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has firmly been established for over 20 years, the gale of defections also reared its head.

“Many of our party members, supporters and lovers of democracy and good governance have inundated many of our leaders, myself inclusive, with calls and messages, many expressing concern on the health of our party in Ebonyi State.

“The PDP family in Ebonyi State is not perturbed by these defections,” Dr. Odii emphasized. “In fact, we see it as a great opportunity – an opportunity to rebuild, an opportunity to re-strategise, an opportunity to form a formidable party that is focused and ready for victory.”

Focus on Grassroots

Dr. Odii highlights the PDP’s strong foundation at the grassroots level in Ebonyi State. He emphasizes the importance of recruiting members who embody the party’s motto, “Power to the People,” and who will prioritize the needs of Ebonyi citizens.

The emergence of movements like the “Obidient Movement” during the 2023 elections is seen as a positive sign, demonstrating the power of the electorate. Dr. Odii suggests that the PDP should learn from such movements and prioritize the will of the people.

Looking Ahead: A Reinvigorated PDP in Ebonyi

Dr. Odii concludes his message with a call to remaining party members and supporters. He assures them that the PDP is determined to capitalize on new opportunities and emerge stronger. The party is committed to re-strategizing and rebuilding itself into a force capable of winning future elections in Ebonyi State.

While acknowledging the challenges posed by recent defections, the Ebonyi State PDP chapter is projecting a message of optimism. The focus on rebuilding, re-strategizing, and reconnecting with the grassroots suggests a determined effort to regain its footing in the state’s political landscape.
