KEY POINTS

  • Dr. Akpan aims to break a 150-hour marathon lecture record.
  • The lecture will address the impact of the environment on health.
  • His effort will raise awareness of environmental issues globally.

Akpan Nsikak, a Nigerian lecturer, is preparing to make history by attempting a marathon lecture lasting 150 hours and has the endorsement of Guinness World Records.

His target is to outperform the preceding record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, courtesy of Indian Professor Arvin Mishra in 2014.

From September 23 to 30, the marathon lecture will be taking place at Foreign Links College in Moro, Osun State, devoted to ‘Relationships between Man’s Environment and Health.’

A product of Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Akpan believes this presents a rare chance to help the academic community while also drawing attention to environmental challenges.

Purpose Beyond the Record

Accordingt to Vanguard, breaking the record is just one aspect of this lecture for Akpan. He aims to use the platform to illustrate the harmful effects of neglecting the environment on human health.

“There is a need for education on this platform about the importance of environmental conservation and its effects on human health,” he pointed out.

His talk will touch on the correlation between health issues and environmental sustainability, an issue he thinks is frequently disregarded in public conversation. Akpan aspires for his marathon work to achieve a new global standard and to encourage a new view of environmental issues among the public.

A New Benchmark for Nigeria

If successful, Dr Akpan’s achievement will place Nigeria in the global spotlight, setting a new benchmark in the world of marathon lectures.

The current record has stood for a decade, and Akpan’s 150-hour attempt would establish a new, impressive global mark. His endeavour is yet another example of Nigerians aiming to leave a positive mark on the world stage.
