  • Rivers State Governor Fubara criticized for allowing external interference.

Northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have received a strong warning from the Niger Delta Reform Agenda (NDRA) to avoid getting involved in Rivers State politics.

However, the group accuses the governors of having hidden agendas that include plundering the state’s resources for their own political aspirations.

Accusations of exploiting state resources

In a statement released in Abuja, NDRA President Sergeant Danielson expressed worries about a northern PDP governor allegedly exploiting Rivers State’s finances for his 2027 political campaign.

According to Vanguard, he called the involvement opportunistic and accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betraying the public’s trust by enabling outside forces to exploit the state’s riches.

Danielson said, “Some people’s unhealthy interest in Rivers State is not a result of true concern for the people, but rather is a calculated move to exploit the state’s resources for their political gain.”

Call for transparency and accountability

Danielson encouraged Rivers State residents to be on guard and to oppose attempts to undermine their sovereignty.

Moreover, he underlined the importance of responsibility and openness in the management of the state’s resources, emphasizing that the people of the state should profit from them, not foreigners who have no stake in the future of the area.

Also, Danielson said, “Governor Fubara’s willingness to allow northern politicians to exploit Rivers State is a betrayal of the highest order.” The governor’s openness to northern politicians has drawn criticism.

Group demands protection of state interests

In addition, the NDRA called on Governor Fubara to act right now to safeguard Rivers State’s resources and put the welfare of its people first.

Furthermore, Danielson reaffirmed the NDRA’s dedication to protecting the state’s interests and preventing political opportunists from seizing control of the state’s resources in his closing remarks.
