The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s recent call for Nigerians to take to the streets over the current economic situation.

The ruling party labeled his comments as irresponsible and unpatriotic, accusing him of inciting anarchy for political gain.

APC slams Amaechi’s comments on youth and protests

In a statement released on Friday, APC spokesperson Felix Morka criticized Amaechi for his remarks, describing them as insensitive.

Morka noted that Amaechi’s comments, made from the “comfort of his glass house,” came at a time when Nigerians are grappling with the economic challenges caused by necessary reforms.

He accused Amaechi of trying to manipulate the youth into violent protests, saying, “Attempting to hoodwink Nigerians into his web of false empathy and incitement to violence is hypocritical, provocative, and dangerous.”

Morka went on to highlight Amaechi’s long history in politics, stating that despite serving as a Speaker, Governor, and Minister for over two decades, he failed to significantly improve the economic conditions of Nigerians during his time in office.

The APC maintained that Amaechi and other political figures, such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, were merely upset that they were no longer in power and were now using the country’s economic difficulties to further their own agendas.

The APC also stressed that the economic challenges the country is facing are temporary, as the administration of President Bola Tinubu is implementing transformative reforms.

“Nigerians are highly perceptive and mindful that economic discomforts associated with the administration’s inevitable reforms are transient,” Morka said.

According to Vanguard, he assured Nigerians that the reforms would lead to long-term economic growth and prosperity, urging them to remain patient and reject the calls for unrest.

The ruling party accused Amaechi and other opposition figures of being part of a “tribe of naysayers” who failed to improve the nation’s economy while in office but now claim to have solutions.

Moreover, Morka stated that the APC government is committed to addressing the country’s economic issues and warned against those who seek to exploit the situation for political gain.

In conclusion, the APC reiterated its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through ongoing economic reforms.

The party urged citizens to reject Amaechi’s call for protests and remain supportive of President Tinubu’s efforts to transform the nation’s economy.
