The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has called for calm among members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, urging them to avoid divisive actions and statements amid the ongoing crisis following the recent congresses that have split the party into two camps.

Appeal for unity within PDP

Following the congresses, the PDP in Benue State has been divided into two factions: one for the ex-Governor Samuel Ortom and the other for Senator Gabriel Suswam. Such a division has led to increased bitterness between the party members.

In a recent development, Senator Suswam for instance described the NWC as biased and has refused to solve the problem.

At a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Senator Suswam openly complained about how the calamity was being managed, telling fellow partisans not to feel as though they are ‘stranded’ because other avenues were open to disgruntled members.

In response, Senator Moro, representing Benue South District, issued a statement through his media adviser, Emmanuel John, urging party members to de-escalate tensions and work towards resolving the conflict amicably.

Call for tolerance and peaceful resolution

Senator Moro called on all members of the PDP to show tolerance and understanding, regardless of the current differences, and to engage in constructive dialogue to restore unity.

He emphasized that leaders within the party are actively working to address grievances stemming from the congresses, with the goal of achieving lasting peace.

“Senator Moro encourages all aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and embrace discussions that will help unify the party,” the statement read.

According to Vanguard, he further noted that PDP remains the most viable alternative to the ruling party and is crucial in providing leadership for Nigerians suffering under the current administration.

Hope for a stronger PDP

Moro expressed confidence that once the internal issues are resolved, the PDP would emerge stronger and more united, ready to reclaim its leadership position.

He reassured party members that the leadership is working tirelessly to address all concerns and restore the party to its winning ways.
