Canada Cancels 10-year Visa, Reinforcing Visa Requirements

KEY POINTS

  • New Direction, Canada no longer awards automatic 10 year multiple-entry visas.
  • Under the new policy, officers can determine the type and length of visa issued to each applicant.
  • Links up with the national demographic policy of controlling the influx of immigrants into the country.

This is an important change in the visa policy of Canada: starting from now the Canadian authorities will not issue 10-year multiple-entry visa automatically for tourists.

According to IRCC, immigration officers have recently got direction that they can now grant visas of varied validity depending on individual circumstances as opposed to the one mentioned above of extended validity.

New guidelines: tailored visas for visitors

The shifted policy will allow people who wish to visit Canada to obtain shorter-validity visas, particularly for those making multiple visits, and they will face higher charges for their visas.

The IRCC said this change is a way to deal with temporary immigration, housing deficit and the ever increasing price of living.

A new direction for canadian Immigration policy

The visa change is in tune with Canada’s continuing struggle to achieve immigration and infrastructural requirements equilibrium.

In addition to decreasing the number of people Canada would allow into the country through the permanent resident category, the policy is a form of dismantling liberal immigration, seeking to assume a rational and let’s-slow-down approach in order for the country to find sustainable ways to respond to socioeconomic shifts.

Earlier, applicants were issued a multiple-entry visa that enabled them to visit without any restrictions for 10 years. However the new policy will let administrators consider the need of each officer and may grant single- or multiple-entry at most up to several.
